Dr. Barnabas Walther, executive director of Vancouver Island Mental Health Society (formerly Columbian Centre) and Peter Giovando, chair of the board of directors, at a special meeting of the society in February 2015
A message from the executive director
As you know, on February 5, 2015 we held a Special General Meeting of the Society to vote on whether or not to change the name of the society to Vancouver Island Mental Health Society. As a result of the unanimous vote in favour of the name change we submitted a request to register the new name. I am very pleased to inform you that we have received official notification from the Province of British Columbia certifying our new name as the Vancouver Island Mental Health Society.
We are keeping the logo and for the next year all correspondence well have the phrase “formerly Columbian Centre Society” following our new name to allow time for people to become familiar with the change. We of course retain all rights, responsibilities and privileges of the Society; only our name has changed to better reflect the services we provide.
We are beginning the process of notifying all the organizations and individuals we work with about our new name. You will shortly notice changes to the web address and other social media to better reflect the new name. For example, some time in future if you google our old name you will automatically be directed to our web page that will have our new name.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your continuing support.
