This year’s Nanaimo Fringe Festival runs from August 13-23, 2015 — and guess what? The performing groups were selected by lottery earlier this month. We speak with festival producer Chelsee Damen.

Nanaimo’s annual Fringe theatre festival will return to local stages again this August 2015. Every year, fringe fests across North America hold lottery-style selections to determine who will bring what performance where. And Nanaimo’s Fringe has made its preliminary selections. While the final line-up rests with the artists themselves, who must confirm their participation, we can take a first look at what’s coming.

Something new for this year…there’s a special space in Nanaimo’s Fringe festival still waiting to be claimed. Introducing the Youth Booster Slot, a ninth show in the lineup that just might be yours. Here are the important points to consider, directly from the Nanaimo Fringe website:

  • Eligibility requirements: all performers in your show are 24 or under and reside in the Regional District of Nanaimo
  • No fees: we’re waiving upfront cost to participate (normally $25 entry fee and $175 artist fee for those who are selected)
  • As usual, we’ll provide an outfitted venue, technician, promotional support, ticket sales
  • 4 showtimes during the festival (Aug 13-23, 2015) rather than the standard 6
  • We’ll keep up to $200 and no greater than 50% of your ticket proceeds in place of the upfront artist fees

Contact the Nanaimo Fringe with your questions (chelsee@nanaimofringe.com) or go ahead and submit your application.
