After a brain injury, it can be very difficult to navigate and cope with complex issues of life. It doesn’t make things easier that acquired brain injury, mental health, and related issues such as substance use and addiction are usually treated by different systems of care.
The Nanaimo Brain Injury Society held a seminar in November 2018 called Out of the Box: Acquired Brain Injury and Mental Health.
The seminar included speakers and table conversations about what is currently happening with brain injury, mental health and substance use, and asked the important question “What needs to change to improve the health and wellbeing of people affected by acquired brain injury, mental health, substance use and concurrent issues in our community?”
