More than 2200 Hectares of territorial land transferred to the Wei Wai Kum First Nation
/

After 25 years at the negotiating table, the Wei Wai Kum First Nation and the province of British Columbia have reached an incremental agreement to transfer more than 2200 hectares of territorial land to Wei Wai Kum.

The land is west of Campbell River, and the provincial government calls the agreement an early benefit as the final treaty is still being negotiated.

Negotiations between the Wei Wai Kum Nation, and the provincial and federal governments have been ongoing since 1997, and will continue following the ITA.

Wei Wai Kum’s elected Chief Councillor Chris Roberts spoke with People First Radio about the agreement and the negotiation process.
